I'm thinking of how I guess there's no equivalent for "Hai-chan" (from the name "Hydra") in English but "Hydie"...which sounds absolutely horrible. But why is it that the subtitles in the official release dub of UFO Princess Valkyrie call Shiro "Spot" and Kuro "Blackie"? "Hydie" at least conveys the original thought of "Hai-chan" and "Blackie"'s a good translation, but "Spot"? Meh.
