Topic: Meinen Art (Good lord, updated at long last)

Seeing as it's finally finished after 5/6 days' straight work, I thought I'd give it a bit of ceremony XD Still needs touching up this evening but since I'm handing it in tomorrow I took a photo now. I chose a jazz theme, and worked from a picture called 'Jazz Trio' (still need a name for this sucker). Each person in the picture is a real jazz figure, except for the drummer who I made up because I couldn't find any decent reference pictures >_>



'Tis A1 size, and all done in paint - and I've been very nervous of paint for a very long time o_o And I'll shut up now, but for all you jazz buffs out there...

Piano - Herbie Hancock
Trumpet - Henry 'red' Allen (or Louis Armstrong, they look strangely similar)
Bass - Dave Holland
Sax - Denys Baptiste
Drums - Generic Drummer-type

Wowwies, thankies for your nice comments guys! ^_^ I've handed it in now, still need to hand in my sketchbook to go with it and then wait for my grade! When Charlotte asked to see it in the lesson she started yelling about it so loud that the whole room turned round to look too, everyone saying how awesome they thought it was >_> So, so embarrassing...Does anyone have any suggestions for a name? o_o

Part of the Jazz aura is the "smokey room" that everyone visualizes the music being played in. So maybe "Somey Room"? *shrugs*

By the way, I think I handed my sketchbook in with that "Dweeb" picture (see Scannies topic) still in it as a page marker XD XD Mr Smith already did a double take when he saw what was on the back of the final piece board...(see Scannies again...)

Edit: Yes, I did indeed hand in my sketchbook with not only the "Dweeb" thing but a page of Alexander Andersong sketches too (in the same topic). He didn't comment on them though.

I got an A for my project ^_^ Had I explored composition more fully in my prep I could've had A* he said - so that's something to work towards next time!

Now that the topic from my forum's been banished to the archives I figured it'd make sense to start posting stuff here instead ^_^ Behold!


The Elizabethan lady that you might've seen before, now with face. I painted in the veil yesterday but it's too dark and and I chucked it behind my wardrobe since I don't have enough red paint to fix it right now.


The fastest final piece that I've ever done for school, based on a photo I took that was in turn based on an old painting of the roman God Neptune. The only part of this I actually like is the towel - the rest of it is just a single layer of paint 'cause I ran out of titanium white and had to leave it.


And finally...a tribute to how very long and boring a call from the dentist was the other day (you can kinda see the number I scribbled above it). It was later desecrated by my dad, so I wanted to keep a record of it without added caption/think bubble. The anatomy and line work's pretty screwed but I only had a Berol handwriting pen and one hand, so you know.

wow their awesome i particularly like the berol dandwriting one i dont know i think its amazing what you are capable of when your bored i cant just draw when im bored i have to keep looking at something to draw it i cant just scribble something cool down and the red dress on the top painting looks great

Yeah drawing when your bored tends to be the best art.
But yeah me is liking the neptune style one. The colours are pretty!

Amy already saw this, but here's a small part of a painting I'm working on at the moment (full version is worked from a photo of a geisha lighting a Western man's cigar, it's a beautiful photo.)



Sadly it's too big to scan in so I had to take a photo, meaning that the colours on the lovely plum shirt didn't come out at all But nevermind. Comments on painting thus far gratefully received!
