(By the way, kanji in Chinese have different pronounciations for Mandarin or Cantonese, but the kanji themselves end up meaning the same things - the difference is kinda like someone reading a word in English in either a very think Cockney accent or a similarly strong Welsh voice. Kinda...they might not understand each other at all unless they were good at dialects but they're still reading the same word. Wow, that didn't make any sense ^_^;; )

And I wondered why I didn't have the stamina to learn Japanese by myself...

Huh? Don't worry, that's just for reading kanji as Chinese characters ^_^

...although for Japanese the characters have their original Chinese reading *and* the Japanese readings, of which there can be many...o_<

It costs too much, but otherwise I'd do okay I think. I've always been pretty good with languages. ^_^

That's actually a good point Amy-chan. Since like me you probably don't know anyone IRL that also speaks Japanese, so there really isn't any motivation for us to learn it either.

That's fair enough, but it's a fun skill to have - and learning any language will help you learn others, recognising patterns and stuff comes easier. For me personally it's taking time, organisation and patience and I'm not the most prganised person in the world (>_>) so it's helping me to develop that as well. We have Japanese students coming to our school about twice a year for a day at a time, so I use those opportunities to check that my accent's not gone too skewiff or anything ^_^;;

We have the two japanese students every year in sixth form, and we ask for lessons that way not just learning some simple words and phrases but also about the history and culture of Japan.. i wonder what our lessons will be like this year? o_0

I can pick up the simple parts of a lanuage but I cant pick anything up fluently, I struggle with lanuages and i always have done. *shrugs*
