Chapter 2
“So,” Ami said as they walked back home. Hikaru skipped merrily along side Ami. “What type of flower do you think makes back gooey stuff. I’ve never heard of a flower that did that.” Ami said. Hikaru stopped.
“Me neither. But the weird thing was it started off as a Cherry Blossom I think.”
“You think?” Ami asked putting her hands on her hips. “How can you think something is or isn’t a Cherry Blossom? They’re pretty easy to spot.”
“I know but that flower seemed a lot darker than the rest. At first it was a red and then a dark red and then it went black. I must have fallen asleep after that.” Hikaru said walking backwards. “Coz when I woke up it was goo.”
“Do you think it was a poison one or something?” Ami asked. Hikaru blinked once or twice and then shook her head.
“Probably some kid playing a joke on us or me in this case.” Hikaru said pointing at herself. “Don’t worry about it Ami-chan I’m sure it was nothing.” Hikaru said turning around and walking properly. Of course in reality Hikaru didn’t really think that. The dream was similar to one she had been having a few nights before. In her dream she found herself back in Cephiro. She was surrounded by happy people whose lives where as happy as Hikaru could ever want. But amongst all these happy Cephiro people was a girl who looked as if she was from Tokyo. She wore a typical sailor suit uniform that was black all over with a red ribbon on her chest.
She would stand in the centre of a small town and stare at Hikaru as people walked past her. No one looked at her or noticed she was there. Her plum colour hair wouldn’t move as the wind blew Hikaru’s. She seemed lost in a world where she shouldn’t be and it seemed as if time and the elements passed her by. She would stand and stare at Hikaru whose hair and skirt blew in the wind and who was noticed by everyone around her. A tear would fall from the girls eyes and drip onto the floor. An immense sadness seemed to surround her and emit from her. Her sapphire coloured eyes seemed to be a vortex into her lonely heart, a gateway between happiness and sadness.
Hikaru would step forward to help her but as soon as she reached the girl the woman would replace her. Her eyes menacing and cruel and the sunny happy Cephiro would turn dark and dismal. People would quiver in fear as the woman stood before Hikaru. They cried out in surprise and ran into their homes and slammed the doors shut. Rain would push against Hikaru and sting her skin. The woman gripped onto her staff and stare at Hikaru with her intimidating eyes. Her cold sapphire blue eyes.
Hikaru would step back and fall into darkness that would cover her and surround her gripping her arms and legs, waist and wrists. Hikaru would cry out but no one would come to save her. The woman would smile tauntingly and wave out her hand. The darkness would submerge Hikaru and suffocate her and Hikaru would feel her breath as it left her lungs. At this point the woman would laugh out loud and then turn to talk to someone but Hikaru couldn’t hear as by this point, as with every night, she awoke in her bed dripping with sweat and breathing intensely as if she had actually stopped breathing.
As son as Hikaru got home she picked up the phone. Her mom was in the kitchen humming a tune while washing up.
Hikaru dialled the number for Fuu’s house and was leaping for joy when her soft voice answered the phone.
“Hikaru-chan! What a nice surprise.” Fuu said down the phone. “So why are you calling? Any reason?”
“Well yeah.” Hikaru said glancing into the kitchen to make sure her mom couldn’t hear. She ran up to her room and shut the door. Her mom heard the door slam and walked to the bottom of the stairs.
“Hikaru are you home?” She called. She noticed her shoes on the doorstep. “Hikaru when you’re done can you put the dishes away for me? I have to go out K?” Her mom asked.
“Sure mom.” Hikaru shouted. Her mom smiled slightly and went back into the kitchen.
Hikaru sat on her bed and breathed deeply.
“Okay Hikaru-chan what is all this about?” Fuu asked. “What’s going on?”
“Well….” Hikaru explained all about her recent dreams and being back in Cephiro in as much detail as she possibly could. She explained about the sad girl and the cruel woman that looked similar to the girl. She explained about the darkness and how she felt when she woke up. She then went on to say about the black flower and the dream she had today with the woman and the sad girl. Fuu listened intently and the fell silent after Hikaru finished,
“Well that’s weird Hikaru. I wonder what that could mean. So you say that these dreams are repeated almost every night?” Fuu asked.
“Yeah. Except for the one earlier today.” Hikaru paused. “Erm Fuu-chan do you have any dreams like that?”
“I can’t say I have Hikaru-chan. If I have then I’ve forgotten them. Why do you ask?”
“It’s just that….well I was just wondering that’s all.”
“What with us being Magic Knights? Just because you’ve had a weird dream Hikaru-chan does not mean anyone else has. All of this could be some subconscious longing for Cephiro. You should take a break Hikaru-chan and relax for a while.” Fuu said cheerfully. It was shame Hikaru didn’t think the same way as Fuu was.
“Do you think Umi-chan has had these dreams too?”
“I have no idea if Umi-chan has had these dreams too. But I’ll call her for you if you like Hikaru-chan I have nothing else to do.”
“Thanks Fuu-chan!” Hikaru said a bit more cheerfully. Fuu said goodbye and hung up. Hikaru put the phone on her bed for a few minutes and lay back. Fuu said it was probably just a way of expressing her longing for Cephiro but too much of it didn’t add up to mention it was. The sad girl looked as if she was from Tokyo and Hikaru had never seen her before in Tokyo or on Cephiro and the woman in the kimono she had never seen her before either. Were all these images created by her own mind just to say you miss that other world? Hikaru doubted it. She doubted it very much.
Hikaru got up and slowly wandered downstairs. She put the phone back on the table and wandered into the kitchen. Her mom was drying her hands and a few white sparkling dishes waited on the draining board to be put away.
“I’m going out shopping.” Her mom said putting her coat on. “I’ll be at least an hour okay honey?” She asked. Hikaru nodded. Her mom picked up her bag and glanced at her daughter. “Hikaru are you feeling alright?” her mom asked. Hikaru looked at her mom.
“Yeah. Sure I am. Why?”
“You just seem a little quiet that’s all. It’s unlike you to be quiet. I just thought something was wrong.” Her mom said. Hikaru smiled.
“Just thinking.” She said drying the dishes. “I got lost in my thoughts I guess.” She said opening a cupboard door to put the dishes in. Her mom nodded and walked into the hallway.
“I’ll see you later.” Her mom called as she put her shoes on. “Don’t get into trouble.” Her mom said as she walked out the door.
Hikaru quickly finished putting the dishes away just as the phone rang. Hikaru ran to the phone and picked it up.
“Hikaru-chan is that you?” Fuu’s voice said down the phone.
“Uh-huh you bet!” Hikaru said. She hoped Umi was having dreams like hers. She hoped beyond hope that she wasn’t alone in thus.
“I called Umi-chan and asked her about the dreams and she said she hadn’t had any dreams like that at all. Sorry Hikaru-chan but it’s only you then.” Fuu said. Her tone seemed a little worried and concerned. Hikaru’s heart dropped like a ten ton weight. She swore she could feel it hit the bottom of her ribs.
“Okay Fuu-chan thanks anyway.” Hikaru said rather glumly.
“Hikaru-chan I was thinking about what you said and that there was a sad girl in your dreams.”
“Yeah.”
“Well if this girl is new to you I was wondering if this really is a way of saying you miss Cephiro or if it is actually a cry for help from someone.”
“You really think so?” Hikaru asked. Her heart leaped back to the top of her rib cage.
“It’s just a thought. It would be wired that sorceress and sad girls and darkness resembled what you miss about it. It seem new from what we have previously fought and I’m starting to think it may be something else. I did ask Umi-chan but she said that if it really was a cry for help we would be there by now because someone would have summoned us but I don’t agree with her theory.”
“What if the person doesn’t have enough power to send us there? What if the girl is weak or something?” Hikaru asked. Her heart was racing.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself Hikaru-chan. Take this a step at a time. I think we should stay put and not go into this until you have another freaky dream okay?” Fuu asked. Hikaru’s heart slowed down a little.
“Okay.” Hikaru replied. She must have sounded more disappointed than she wanted to because Fuu sighed and muttered something.
“Don’t get too upset Hikaru-chan we all want to go back.” She said trying to be cheerful. Hikaru nodded even though Fuu wouldn’t see her nod and hung up.
She collapsed on the floor where she was and sighed. She was sure that this dream meant something. Hikaru couldn’t sit around wait like Fuu had advised.
Hikaru got back up and put her shoes on. She didn’t know where she was going to go but she needed to do something about this dream. She knew that Fuu would be worried and upset if she found out Hikaru had ignored her advice but if that girl was in trouble or stuck in Cephiro and calling out for Hikaru’s help then Hikaru had to help.
“I must help her.” Hikaru muttered. “If that girl is trapped and that sorceress has something to do with it then I must help. As a Magic Knight I will help her.”
Hikaru wrote a note for her mom in case she was back before Hikaru was and then ran out the door and down the street towards the park.
