There really seems to be a lack of sanity in the main discution so here it is, presenting the JAzz ba! A nice and relaxed place where you can talk about anything. There is only one rule here in the Jazz bar... Keep it sane. No insane antics in here please, thanks. :)
-
Heh, yep, I've noticed that too, but I'm as guilty as everyone else round here... Heh ^_^;; But I can be serious sometimes... Hey, sometimes I want to be serious... =P
And on another note, The Smoking Room? Ugh... I really do detest smoking, I have to put up with bunches of high school students thinking it's "cool" to smoke everyday, and ugh, they smell. In both senses of the word. =P I don't want to be getting tar-filled lungs or a nicotine addiction from cigarettes or people blowing second-hand smoke in my face. Ugh. It's a waste of money (most of it goes to the government, that's why they aren't exactly being forceful on preventing smoking...), and it's an early death. I've never tried it, and never will! *boogie* ^_^
Well, I guess that's something to start talking about? =P Even though it was a little ranty... XD
-
I can remember smoking in high school, but I only did it because everyone thought that it was cool and didn't really do anything for me. If someone were to give me a cigarette now and I smoked it, I'd get a real quick nicotine buzz followed by a nasty headache about an hour later. A lot of my in-laws smoke and their houses just smell like ashtrays (and they do too when they come to visit me. :P). After I come home from visiting them, my clothes and hair smell like the evil cigarette smoke until I take a bath and change. Here in America they cost about $5 a pack (when I was in high school a carton was $5) so the cost adds up rather quickly. Two packs a day would equal a monthly car payment, so which would you rather have?
-
I think that question answers itself. I am completely anti-smoking and haven't even tried a cigarette. It's not worth the risk. The worst thing is you have to put up with a lot of other people smoking around you and you can't do much about it. I'm too much of a coward to say anything and even if i did it might result in violence.
-
I have to cope with my Dads smoking but after yesterday hes really trying to start smoking when im not in the room or in another room. I hate smoking, always have done you;ll enevr get me started or make me take a drag, never.
But the subject itself is one that annoys me espically when you and a friend promise to never smoke and you find out they havent been keeping that promise, it might be a small thing but it does hurt when a promise was made. Bleh...
-
hmmm I hafta say I'm a little guilty on this topic. yes I have smoked, for quite a while, but that was 2 years ago! so no grudges against me!! ;)
I not totally against smoking because I believe people have the right to do whatever they want with their lives and body, but perhaps they shouldnt be allowed to smoke near non-smokers as it also harms them...
I dunno, have a debate with Tony Blair about it :-\
-
OMG SHE'S POSTED!!!!!!! hi *waves* Like tony blair would do anything... like liz said: all the money goes to him anyway
-
((changes name of room))
-
Hehe, thank you, I was hoping you'd get the hints =P
The Jazz Bar sounds like a way more friendly place anyways... Plus, it's Jazz! XD
People seem to think that I'm one of those rocker people who's really closed-minded and just listens to heavy-metal 24/7, automatically detesting anything else... (well, my History teacher implied this, I found it sort of insulting...) Do I really give off that impression? T_T Because I don't want to give that impression. I'm an open-minded person, musically and in general, I think. ^_^
-
She did? o_0 i didnt know that....
people get the impression Im an emo cos im usually distant, quiet or upset about something or other, and some of the "rockers" call me paranoid... >.<
People know im open minded in some respects but im also stubbron with what i belive in, and i know you as a person and a friend liz and you never gave that impression to me before i knew you! *hugs*
-
People often judge only on appearances which is natural because a lot of the time it's the only information that we have about another person. To learn more we have to talk and communicate with them. I'm not sure if your teachers talk to you and take any personal interest in you guys (I know that mine didn't). So they should refrain from making any judgements by characterizing you as a "rocker" or an "emo" until they get to know you better.
Erm, we can't smoke in here any more?
-
Hmm, well, she wasn't mean about it, but she implied she thought like that... Ah well. I've been called a stereotype before, actually... >_<
And you probably can smoke in here, but nowhere near me. Ick. =P
*shiver*Hmm, it's been pretty cold here. And wet, raining, *again*... That plus a school blouse really do not mix. >_< Those sorts of blouses are white, and pretty seethrough anyway... but in the rain? Aarrggh... >_<
-
the rains cool though... and no smoking near me either!! 0_0
i think everyones bound to get labelled at some point in our life. and some of our teachers do tend to come over and just chat with us, our history teacher does the most i think...
-
I'll admit, I have had a ciggarrette on occassion, but all it's ever done is privide me with anti-smoking fuel - it's pointless, it does nothing, all it will do is make you a big heap of smoky smoke. And damn, if you get addicted - it's costly. In the end it's up to you, but if you *do* smoke then at least keep it more private.
Rosi's been getting into smoking recently, just so she can say things like "DAMN! I want a smoke! *looks around to see who's paying attention*". She expects me to not approve, but to be honest I don't give a damn. If she wants to appear "cool" then that's her ego-problem not mine.
Something that both amuses and upsets me is when I see people hanging around in large groups, Rosi used to be one of these and Tonia too, who pose with ciggies but then inhale the smoke and hold it in their mouths before breathing it straight out again. Come on guys, do it *properly*, breathe the tar into your LUNGS. That is aftr all the correct and most cool thing to do. Gets you feeling smoky real deep down ya know.
/rant
Because a couple of people in our group dress especially rock/goth we can get labelled as Satan-worshippers so I think it suprises people when we turn out to be just normal ^_^; Music-wise I'm pretty much an open book, I'll listen to pretty much anything aside from Rap and the more generic kind of pop. But Jazz, Blues, Classical, Rock, Metal, Punk, Bob Dylan-style Folk - bring it on!
-
That sounds a lot like the same stuff that got me to smoke too, I just wanted other people to think that I was cool. Smoking is actually really uncool if you think about it - sucking poisonous carcinogens into your body is not cool. Somewheres I read that every cigarette a person smokes chops 7 minutes off of the length of your lifespan.
-
Yeah smoking sucks. It's crap. i hate it. i mean poisoning yourself is not cool. somkers won't think its cool when they grow up with layers of tar in their lungs and smokers cough....or lung cancer.....
-
Unless your my dad, he doesnt care whats happened to my nan who smoked, he doesnt care about my health and passive smoking and our families finances so long as he gets his daily fixes of nitotine >.o
I know that sounds cruel and heartless for his daughter to say but the more he smokes the more i believe it. Bleh..
-
that's just cruel! he's as good as killing you!
-
Its not like that, hes additced. hes smoked since he was 15 thats almost 30 years now. Hes killing himself but i do worry about the passive smoking espically with my asthma >.< He does care i guess but its too hard for him to kick the habit.
-
hmm... well if i had children i would do anything, especially stop smoking, for them
-
Same here, Ill do anything for any kids i have. Im that type of person though.
-
Hmm, well, other than MJ who already has them, would you guys actually have kids or not? Just wondering. ^_^
-
After I was forced against my will on friday to watch birthing videos... then at this moment in time i dont really like the idea of kids. Mainly because birth hurts.. alot! 0_0 I have found a new respect for all women who have had to give birth!!
But i wouldnt mind having kids in about 10 years or more, mainly because ive been told im a very motherly person.. so i guess i need to use that at some point xD
-
Mainly because birth hurts.. alot! 0_0
The doctors can pump you full of painkillers so that you don't feel a thing. If you're into that kind of thing ...
that's just cruel! he's as good as killing you!
Couldn't have said it better myself JW. To show how strong of a drug nicotine is, one of my wife's aunts is in her early seventies and literally dying of emphysema. Earlier in her life she was a raving drunk that her own mother had to go and search the town for the next day because she never came home at night. But she went to AA and quit drinking and went on to become a Massachusettes state AA organization leader. However, even though the Grim Reaper now holds the scythe to her neck, she will not quit smoking. Her, a woman that had utterly conquered alcoholism. I wish that there was a way that your dad could meet her Amy-chan, then he might get an idea of the hell he will be facing in his old age.
-
nope i'm not going to have kids
-
Hmm, well, I have no idea if I would... The pain and sheer hell of pregnancy kinda puts me off the idea, but I think I would have kids...
Heh, I'm kind of a motherly person at heart, I like to look after people and make them feel loved. ^_^
And the idea of a child, a person who's a part of you and the person you love, just seems like a nice idea. You'd get to see them grow up and become a good person in the world (well, hopefully).
So I probably will have kids someday...
XD Heh, wonder what my kids would be like?
-
i wana have kids i have always wanted them + i wont have to go through any of the pain WOOT! anyway on the subject of smoking it is a horrible thing i remember trying to give up a long time ago what put me off them was a book, you see i thought that smoking was the least harmfull of most drugs so i thought i would do that one to stop me getting beaten up as much cuz gits would think im cool. but in his book it told me that if you inject a gram of heroine in your body you will get a buzz followed by a crash and if you inject a gram of nicotine in your body you die instantly....so i thought hell i dont wana die and quit. although i wonder how many poeple read that book and go from smoking to injecting heroine?!?
-
Bleh, my nan is seriously ill. She cant walk across a room without becoming short of breath. Shes in and out hospital and shes weak. Its scary and whats more is shes my dads mom. She did this all from smoking combined with asthma yes but still. My dads too additced. I felt really embarrased yesterday though, when i was told i smelt of cigaratte smoke.. i hate the smell myself but i dont smoke my dad does *sigh*
And all males are fucking lucky compared to what women have to put up with! They can find excuses and other reasons but i still cant see it balancing. Christainity say that women suffer more becuase it was eve who took the apple in the garden of eden... but still T.T
-
Yep... Men do have it easy, but most of them realise that, I think! XD They'd better, anyway.
And yes Tom... you don't have to suffer the pain of childbirth. >_< Any particular reason you want kids?
-
ah just imagine the clip clop of mini sheep hooves or the splatter of little webbed feet... you'd all make good parents
-
i want kids because i want to be a part of creating life and i want to have an impact on someone and i want somthing to be left behind when i die i just love the idea of having children and have always wanted them also i want to always have a huge family like i do now and the only way i can keep my family huge is if me my bros and sis and cousins all have kids and there kids have kids that would be great!
-
I'm not sure, I think I'd want kids but knowing the kind of devotion they'd need leaves me in doubt that maybe I could provide it, or at least show my overwhelming love enough to them. I can be very maternal at times, and like I said I'd love to have children - but I guess you never know what kind of parent you're going to be until you are one, right? And besides, I *would* want them to have a regular nuclear family but getting onto the topic of marriage...
For me, a marriage has to be completely and utterly open and trusting and I really don't know if I will ever be able to make everything about me accessible to another person. If I find the right person then maybe, but there's also a part of me that would be perfectly happy to live alone for the rest of my life - contributing to society in general in another way than providing children, maybe though research or something. Using languages to connect people, using science to truly make a difference to people's lives - there are lots of ways you can contribute to the pattern of life without creating it yourself. I think Liz has known how I can feel about this sort of thing when I get *too* deep into myself >_>
What are other people's thoughts about marriage and these sorts of things?
-
It may not seem it but the idea of marriage scares me a hell of a lot. I cant see myself commiting to one person for eternity it seems a little far-fetched in this day and age.
I guess that its possible though, to have a happy marriage forever...
Whether I ever get married i really dont know I'll have to see what happens in the future, its one of those things i dont often think about.
-
I cant see myself commiting to one person for eternity it seems a little far-fetched in this day and age.
I guess that its possible though, to have a happy marriage forever...
Naturally it's possible, many people have managed it. What about the concept seems far-fetched in this day and age?
-
Ypu just have to look at divorce rates to see why many people these days see a why perfectly happy marriage in the eyes of a teenager would seem afr fetched.
-
I guess so, but you could argue that the increasing divorce rates are due to more and more people just rushing into marriage. Because of so many teenagers losing their virginity while young and all that, marriage isn't seen as quite the special bond it used to be and so people might not think so carefully about it. And like you said, people look at the increasing amount of 'failed' marriages and feel that the same will happen to them which in turn might influence the next generation...
(Sorry if my last comment sounded a bit dweeby, I was in a really bad state of mind o_o)
-
I can see what you mean, I guess in a sense everything that used to be an imporatant part of peoples lives nowadays we're more laided back about them. I'd say that the lack of religion has a very large to play in that.
(sorry theres not much.. im in a hyper mood and i cant word things properly >_<)
-
I think that it came up in a different topic that human beings by nature are selfish. We survive by looking after ourselves, but applying that principle to marriage, very simply, results in divorce. Concepts like discipline, ethics, morals, and philosophy are learned behaviors. We are not born with a sense for any of these and most learn these things and learn to apply them to our lives. It requires a conscious effort to do so, whereas human nature just happens and we have to fight against it to prevent it. Thus committing ourself to another person, to put them first and ourself second is contrary to human nature. We must constantly make an effort to keep the committment going and to make a marriage last. The alternative - to stop working on it - is of course much easier and if we allow human nature to take over, we simply become lazy take the easy way out - divorce.
-
Aye, I agree.
Being religous myself, I have a self-pride in keeping my commitments. Religion is important.
-
All of my friends were swallowed by toilets, now I'm all lonely ... T_T
-
Hey I'm still here!
*Gets Swallowed by toilet*
-
Eeeep! Noooooo!!
*Grabs Kamui-kun's hand and pulls him back out.*
There ... that's betters. ^_^ Now I should go find Framer I think and maybe we can have the board back they way it used to be, a looong time ago ... in a Galaxy far, far away ...
-
Hmm... I seem to have a lot of rubbish in my toilets this week somehow... x_x;;
-
Ooooh, teh Haggis is back too! Mmmm, yummiess! ^_^ Maybe we can get the rest of them out of the toilets too?
-
Well, I have been trying... They've blocked up my pipes!
*hands MJ a pair of rubber gloves*
Now we can fish them all out! ^o^
-
I know that it's a tough choice for people, cleaning toilets = money, whereas coming here to visit is just for fun. ^_^;; Somehow I have to figure out how to make fun more important than money ... hmm ...
*Puts on rubber gloves*
-
Heh, it's not just the toilets that stop the visits... it's parents... and computers... x_x
*throws computers down the toilet*
-
Eeepers, don't do that Sheepiess, your compy appears to be the only one still working, well Cookies's does too, so don't go getting flushed on me ... it's soo lonely here without you guys. T_T
-
Heh, well, I've been having problems with the internet lately... and I've all I've really been able to do was chat on msn, and only late at night when hardly anyone is on. If I didn't go to school with most of these people, I'd be pretty lonely too. v_v *huggles MJ*
-
*Huggles back* ^_^
It's not good to hear that your internet service has been acting up lately, but there is probably not much to be done about that. v_v
-
Well, it's all fixed now so all is good in the world! ^__^
-
My comp works, I'm just inactive >.>
-
Heh, really? I always thought you were pretty active >.>
-
He's probably off playing GW Sheepiess, bring active but also inactive at the same time. lol The last time that I looked Guild Wars has had about 4 expansions since the last time I've played. ^_^;;
-
*shudder*
I wish not to talk about that dreaded game... x_x
-
Eh-heh, fair enough although I assume that you don't want to discuss it me personally. However, <The Forbidden Game Name> is obviously an issue, so sitting Robin-kun down for a discussion about it would be a good idea.
-
He knows exactly where I stand with Guild Wars. x_x
And what was the point of editing that post? I do remember what I was talking about dear =P
-
drat :D
-
Waauggh!! I've been modded, so some shiney theft might be in order, hehe. :P But with that aside, GW still sounds to be very much an open issue with you two. ^_^;;
-
He should just be glad I don't live with him. XD
-
Yeah I'd never get a chance to play it then :P
-
I don't live with him. XD
Hmm, not at the moment, but are there any plans for that in the future? I like weddings, they're lotsa fun to go to. ^__^
-
Eh-heh, well, it's kind of complicated, so I have no idea as of now.
And weddings? o_o I can't afford one! XD
-
Don't worry you'll get an invite :P You may have to wait a while yet though you no :P
-
I'd guess quite a while =P
-
Couple of years at least :P
-
Be sick of me by then, I think everyone on HH's would be :P
-
Nah, we won't be sick of you Haggis-chan! *huggles* ^_^
... and GW might have gone kaput by then. :P
-
Hehe, here's hoping! XD *evil cackle*
-
Today I went out and got the new World of Warcraft expansion thingy, but it's too bad that you can't play that Sheepies. They have different server types with slightly different rules which helps sort out the player population a little bit. The pvp servers tend to attract the more anti-social players (read: evilness player killers), but the rp servers like the one I play on tend to attract the more geeky types ... like me ... ^_^;;
-
all my chars are on pvp servers
-
^ Evilness PK'er!!! Eeeeeeeeeeppp!! O.O;;
*runs away crying*
-
i barely ever gank people. the pvp aspect just adds suspense when you quest in contested areas n stuff. oh it gets reeeaal fun sometimes.
-
I've played the battlegrounds before, so yeah PvP is more interesting and challenging than straight PvE.
-
admit it, you find joy in killing people of the opposite faction. i know you enjoy it. i know it.
-
Hehe, yupperz I does ... but I just don't like them killing me ... :P
-
dieing is never fun, especially when theres more than one person ganging up on you. but think, once your high enough level, you can run thru places killing every low level guy in sight. what server are you on anyway?
-
Eh-heh, I don't gank lowbies, even if I have the opportunity. I play on Scarlet Crusade most often, but I have characters on other servers too and I play both factions.
-
i got my alliance to 61 before i wasnt able to take it anymore. that faction is full of lil 12 year olds, and i go insane sometimes because of their sheer stupidity. im stickin with horde.
you dont gank lowbies? you dont even get tempted, even if you know you can in one shot? i give props -- thats very hard to do. what are those rp servers like? i hear those are complete nerd-fests
-
Nope, I wouldn't gank someone outside of the bg unless they deserved it, but it seems like the ones that do are always the same faction. >_>
RP servers can be geeky, the one I play horde on is, but one I play alliance on really isn't but it does have some rp guilds. I'm familiar with a lot of the Warcraft stories, so I can make intelligent in-character discussion, but I don't spend a lot of time doing that. It's hard to rp while fighting anyways lol :P The Scarlet Crusade server has a lot of serious players on it, with many raiding guilds, and half of my friends list are people like me that are older and married and all that. One guy I met belongs to a guild that has three groups running Karazhan simultaneously. ^_^;; The "12 year-old" factor is practically non-existant.
-
no lil kids? i underestimated rp servers. go to an alliance pvp one for one day. i dare you.
i think this should be the official WoW thread haha
-
Any server in particular that would have all of the 12 year olds on it? I've found a few dorks here and there on my server, like the ones that go pull trolls in ZF while you're afk and you come back all wiped. That doesn't happen very often, elitism is a bigger problem on our server. But I've always thought that the PvP servers would attract more kiddies because of what you described - one shotting n00bs, corpse camping, griefing, etc is all the kind of stuff I'd expect from kids lol
-
whos that in your pic?
-
Erm, that's a long story but there is a thread about it around here someplace ... and yes it is all your fault Liz!
-
i tried searching the forum, but i dont know what keywords to even use. how is it a long story to say whos in the pic? haha

woah -- you can't just shoot madonna like that
-
*Watches the corpse of another dead fanboy slump to the ground.*

Erm, I have tried that already y'know. It's amazing how quick guys are at doing stupid things ...
-
at least it's good to know your loved
