CHAPTER 4
“ Where am I?” Anna called out to the four white walls in this unfamiliar place.
“Whaddyawakemeupfor?” Yoh mumbled waking up.
“Anna!” the joy in his shadowed face seemed to awaken the room, “ your awake. I’ll explain when I get back.” He grinned broadly but Anna detected ugly shadows under his eyes that seemed to drain some of the youth in his face. He Walked out of the room and left Anna alone in what she gathered as a hospital room. Why was she here? She wondered she felt weak and groggy and her head pounded with a headache. As Yoh came back she demanded an explanation from him. Yoh explained that he just heard her scream and found her basically dead on the street. While Anna tried to get her head round this Yoh held her hand and soothed her gently.
“ I have no memory of yesterday at all. “ she finally muttered as if defeated.
“ Hey don’t worry about it.” Yoh smiled happily.
“ Yoh you saved my life I don’t know how to repay you.” Anna said as if that fact had just registered in her head.
“ Well there’s one small thing I would like you to do for me.”
“ I’ll do anything.”
“ I would like you to wait for me. I don’t want to lose you Anna and I leave in a few days. Please wait for me.”
“Why…” she began but Yoh stopped her.
“Just promise me and I’ll tell you in good time.” He said simply.
“ I promise.” Anna said full of confidence. Yoh smiled as he tried to stifle a yawn without Anna noticing.
“ Where did you sleep Yoh? And for how long?” Anna said her voice full of concern but a flicker of humour dashed across her eyes.
“ I slept in this chair for a few hours last night.” Yoh mumbled.
“ Come here,” she coaxed “ here you can lie here with me there’s plenty of room.” She added.
“ Yoh crept onto her bed on which she had made room for him and muttered,
“Thanks.” Anna just smiled and wrapped her arms round his body suddenly tired and weaker.
“ I think I love you Asakura Yoh and I’ll wait for you forever.” she whispered and kissed his forehead. Yoh though was fast asleep in Anna’s arms.
CHAPTER 5
Anna was dismissed from hospital that evening and even though she moaned Yoh stayed with her the whole time. They called a taxi for the journey home because Anna felt too weak still to walk all the way home. The house felt cold when they finally reached it and an angry manta came storming around from the back of it.
“ What do you think your playing at Asakura Yoh? You said come early I have some chores but three hours later you come back with your fiancée in your arms smiling at you in a weird way while it rains here and I get drenched.” Yoh jumped back in surprise as Anna gasped in pain.
“ I’m’ ok” she said to Yoh as he looked over at her with concern written all over his face “ just a headache.”
“YOH!” manta shouted making Anna gasp again in Yohs arms.
“ Manta please be quiet and I’ll tell you everything and get your clothes dry. Lets go in and get Anna to bed first though.” Anna smiled gratefully as Yoh carried her up to her room and lay her on her bed and kissed her cheek gently. Anna was too tired to blush or slap him and fell into a deep dreamless sleep. Yoh tiptoed down the stairs to deal with a fuming Manta.
When Yoh had finished explaining the only thing that could come out of Manta's mouth was,
“ I am so sorry Yoh is there anything I can do.” Yoh smiled at his friend. After long talk on the shaman tournament, manta asked Yoh something that had been bugging at him for weeks,
“ You really love her don’t you Yoh?” Yoh sat in silence for a while before saying,
“ Yes I do. I’ll die for her Manta. I just want to hold her close to me and kiss away all of her worry and despair. I want to make it work, but I know she'll never like me or keep her promise to wait for me. “
Manta sat quietly fore a few moments before looking up at Yoh,
“ she loves you alright I can see it in her eyes Yoh. I’m not just saying this because I’m your best friend or anything. Yoh you need to tell her and she you.”
“when?”
“ before the tournament,” he said firmly “if you die she’ll never know and neither will you.”
“ I guess so…. HEY enough talk of death lets make some food I’m starving” Yoh said suddenly as if he wanted to change the subject.
“ promise me Yoh.”
“I promise” Yoh smiled it felt as though a great weight had been lifted off his chest.
“ now food” manta promised. They went into the kitchen and rummaged around a little.
“ er how does pancakes sound?” Yoh grinned.
“great and we could make a little for Anna when she wakes up” manta added.
The evening was finally spent eating and making pancakes and watching some TV. Anna came down and snuggled up with Yoh Manta noticed. Around ten manta left hoping that Yoh and Anna would admit their true feeling before it was too late. Yoh and Anna soon went to bed after but no matter how much she tossed and turned Anna couldn’t sleep. After another silent debate with herself she went quietly into Yohs room and gently woke him,
“ whaddswrongAnna?” he mumbled sleepily.
“ I was just wondering if I could share the bed with you because I’m cold.”
“ Ok” he said making her room. Anna slid in and snuggled up to Yoh and sighed.
“ WhatswrongAnna?” Yoh asked
“ I just don’t want to lose you either Yoh. Now get some sleep.” She curled her arm up to his neck and fell asleep. Yoh breathed in the scent of her beautiful blonde hair and whispered
“ I love you Anna you won’t lose me I promise.” He kissed her on the forehead and fell asleep.
