Sometime after I did the upgrade to version 2.1.14 the forum just stopped working and started giving error messages. I still really don't know why because it worked for a day or so after the upgrade was finished and many of us were able to post here. A helpful person at the IPS home forum gave me a template rebuild tool and after I ran it a little while ago things seem to work again. IPB probably deserves some of the blame for not getting their upgrade process foolproofed, but I'd just be dodging the issue and feel free to throw things at me for messing up again. Just try to avoid the pointy objects ... mee sorriess ... T_T

So thats what happened.. I really thought it was just my computer and internet being stupid~ ^^;; And its not your fault or anything Hikaru-chan~ So if anyone throws stuff at you, I'll poke them <3

So that's how it stopped for a while. I knew that there was a type of problem. Just didn't know as to what. It's not your fault, Hikaru-san. You tried your best to improve the forum. Even though there were a few setbacks, the important thing is at least you tried. I'm sure the others will understand. Daijoubu desu. Hontou desu. *pats Hikaru on the back*.

It does feel better to know that you're not upset with me because of this. It really was an accident and I really didn't want to mess up my own board. ;; IPB is still fairly new to me, but slowly I will learn where the admin pitfalls are and avoid them in the future ... I hope ;;

Heh. When I saw the sad Hikaru face and the notice, I thought it would be down a lot longer than this. Glad it returned so quickly...

It was the same impression for me as well. I thought that the forum would be down for quite a bit longer because it had be two days and I still hadn't received any response from IPS on the tickets that I'd sent them. It was very fortunate that I was able to come up with a tool to fix the theme skin. Now I've just found a new problem, the skin is giving me javascript errors on my compy at work, so now I'm going to have to go back to using the IPB default theme since it is the only one that seems to be compatable with the new version.

I've done forum upgrades many times previously with other BBS software, but IPB really gives me a headache. If I ever get it working right again, I'll never do another upgrade. @_@

hmmmm....sounds like IPB is having issues.....another board that I post on went down for a while too. I had the exact error explained to me, but it was mostly done in uber-programmer, so it made my head hurt @_@. I don't think anyone here really blames you, Shii-chan. we all know that computers and servers tend to go *boom* a lot.

IPB did send around a notice advising all of their customers to upgrade to the new version, so I suspect that the other forum that you mentioned also did it as well and at around the same time that I did. Custom skin layouts have much of the core BBS code within each one of them, so each one is almost like a separate BBS in itself. When an upgrade is provided, it only updates the base IPB default skin layout and none of the other custom ones. All of the others I had to delete, although I did re-install the Goldewine layout that we were using just so that I could test it with my own account. When I feel comfortable that I can safely use it again, I'll turn it over to the forum default again.

Yes, it hasn't been giving me any problems since last weekend, so I hope that it will be okay from now on. *crosses fingers* ;; For me this has been one of those learn by experience things, so hopefully I'll be able to avoid falling into the same trap in the future.
