Right now I'm watching Strawberry Eggs again. This is such an adorable show, and I had almost forgotten how much I love it. ^_^;; The premise is kinda odd. A college graduate with a teaching degree is having a real tough time finding work as a teacher. Out of money and desperate, he goes to a nearby middle school to apply for work. Much to his dismay, they inform him that only female teachers are allowed to teach there. So with the encouragement of his devious landlady, he disguises himself as a woman and lands the job. Very similar in concept to the movie "Tootsie", he actually succeeds and does well. Okay no more spoilers. This premise could have allowed the show to become raunchy or hentai, but it doesn't. In fact it's quite the opposite, a very warm and fuzzy show that has adorable characters in Fuko and Hibiki and a wonderful relationship between them. ^_^

Mmm..yes...this anime is great! Hibiki is so funny! And the landlord is hilarious! I love the opening song, Dearest by Hitomi Mieno!

==================

Nee Honto wa Eien nante nai koto

Ahh Actually Nothing is forever

Watashi wa itsu

kara Kizuiteitan darou

After a while I finally start to realize

Nee Sore demo Futari de sugoshita hibi wa

But Even that The days we spent together

Uso janakatta koto Dare yori hokoreru

Definitely not empty I am very proud of

Ooooh, I loove the opening theme, it's such a beautiful song. ^_^ Although it seems a little sad or melancholy to me. Do you get that feeling too Kyo-san?

The way the lyrics are worded seems like they're talking about events that happened in the past. So I guess it could be both, sweet memories of a time long gone ...

How about another question Kyo-san - how does Fuko's affection for Hibiki strike you? I've always been a little confused about it myself.

Today I finished Strawberry Eggs, it pretty short as a series, only 13 episodes. It's too bad there aren't more. v.v It's pretty apparent that Fuko really does fall in love with Hibiki, even though Hibiki is the teacher and seemingly a female. The subs I have translate suki and even daisuki to mean "like" and not "love" in different places so maybe that's why I get confused. There's some interesting romances near the end - she loves him who loves her who loves her who is really a him .. erm maybe I should watch it again to get it all straightened out. ^_^;; And a good dose of angst to go around for everone. Oooh, and I also found some cool Japanese extras at the end of the DVD's including textless openings and closings. ^_^

Today I just finished watching Strawberry Eggs again. I don't know what it is, but the ending always makes me cry. T_T You would think I'd get over it having seen the series about four times, but for some reason it just seems to get better each time around. ^_^;; Or maybe I'm just weird .. :P

Aww...all my comments on this anime were erased...*sigh*

In short I loved this anime but wish it were longer and went deeper into Mizuho's feelings.

Hold me down.

Pin me to the ground.

So I won't run away.

Please, if you care,

Don't turn away.

Don't let me go.

Don't let me leave.

I love you...

Yeah, the hackers wiped out a ton of the anime series comments and there doesn't seem to be any sign that ezboard will ever get any of them back. This is one of the losses that I'm going to miss the most. v_v

This is one of the few threads that survived the Ezpocalypse, so pretty old but still interesting though. happy.gif

In a manga that I have been reading, Hana Kimi, there is another very similar situation going on. The main character there is Mizuki, a girl that has such adoration for a track star that she cuts her hair and dresses as a boy to attend the same all boys school that her track star idol goes to. Along the way another student (not the track star) becomes madly infatuated with Mizuki even though he has no idea that Mizuki isn't really a boy. The way it was explained there is that people are subconsciously male or female and physical disguises, no matter how convincing, simply cannot hide that. So to me the same explanation works for Fuko and Hibiki as it does for Nakatsu and Mizuki. Indeed both Fuko and Nakatsu are at first bewildered that they feel so attracted to a person of (apparently) the same sex ... but the bewilderment is only in their minds because really they're physically opposite sex. There isn't anything hentai or ecchi in I My Me Strawberry Eggs, although the age difference pushes it a little bit. On the other hand it's hardly unusual for a student to take a liking to one of her teachers (and Hibiki is a cute guy as well as a sweetheart happy.gif), but like in real life, the relationship doesn't go very far in I My Me Strawberry Eggs either. If I tried to explain with more details it would probably ruin the ending for anyone still interested in seeing this anime.

I've only seen the opening of episode 1 at the moment (my friend Saku-chan is determind to watch Inuyasha epies with me 24/7 so i don't really get a chance to watch more), but it does look quite intressting. The old woman with the gun and plastic bullets at the start made me laugh smile.gif And the theme is so cute happy.gif

Teeheehee! The old Landlady is a trip, she's hilarious! happy.gif She's also the driving force behind Hibiki-sensei's little masquerade, so it's not even his idea. Like the main character in Tootsie, Hibiki agrees to it because he desperately needs a job. In fact Tootsie is a rather accurate Hollywood film parallel to I My Me Strawberry Eggs.
