I'm pretty sure that Docs followed Yuzuki-chan here to the MKR forum a long time ago. We've always been a forum dedicated to Magic Knight Rayearth and I originally made it because I wasn't able to find such a place that already existed ... well not one that had any regular visitors anyways. ;;

The dreaded ezpocalypse actually murdered my post count. When that event happened it dropped from almost 9000 to about 3500 so it hasn't been made up, even to this day. v_v

^ I few years ago the ezboard community servers were hacked as a whole and billions of posts from thousands of forums were deleted. Was horrid and was the reason we moved to this forum host I believe.

My theory has been for a long time that the Ezpocalypse event wasn't the result of a malicious hacking incident, but the result of Ezboard's own incompetence instead. Ezboard uses a flat file system to store their data rather than an SQL database like most modern forum softwares use (like ours does). In a flat file system, the posts and other data are stored as individual files on a server, much like we do with file on our own PC's. So in order for a software to access the data it must navigate a directory tree to find the post data it wants to display for people to see. The explanations that I've read of the Ezpocalypse indicate that the directory tree structure was deleted/corrupted/etc making the data files inaccessible even though the data still existed.

The level of access into ezboard's system would need to be at an operator/administrator level to accomplish such a task, so a true hack would've been quite a feat indeed. Instead I tend to believe that either a) a disgruntled ezboard employee did it out of revenge or retribution or B) ezboard did it themselves by mistake. The way that ezboard handled the incident just blew my mind. There were no backups, they continually contradicted themselves as different people kept pointing the blame at each other, many well respected Ezboard mods/admins lost their jobs, it was just a complete sham. Because I felt so much dishonestly coming from them, I felt that I could no longer trust Ezboard and so I packed up and moved here.

Personally, I was heartsick over what had happened to our forum. Being the forum operator I felt completely responsible for the loss of so many members post data, but I did get a lot hugs and comforting from everyone. In a way it did bring all of us a lot closer together to grieve the loss together as a community of friends.

For the most part all that is known about the Ezpocalypse is just rumours and hearsay. Some assertions like the directory tree structure deletion I personally saw written by former Ezboard employees in other online forums so there is greater weight of credibility with some theories than others. There has never been a formal disclosure by Ezboard of exactly what happened, so that also points the finger of guilt at them. And as one might suspect, the "hacker" or perpetrator has never been identified or prosectuted.

Still, to me the most sickening aspect of the whole debacle was the lack of backups and Ezboard's whole attitude towards the intrinsic value of the data stored on their servers. Time and again, Ezboard made public statements to the affect that the data on their servers was their property and that users had no legal rights to it whatsoever. So even though Ezboard failed to protect the data, they still shoved it back in our faces that we had no right to question their handling of the data, thus they compounded their incompetence by stacking arrogance on top of it. >_<

So I learned a hard lesson from Ezboard about TOU's and EULA's ... you know those little legal things you have to click "accept" on in order to install a program? By hitting the accept button, you essentially deprive yourself of every legal right you can imagine, you at at their mercy.

Ahaha, taking it with a grain of salt, huh? I usually do, but I was kinda tired when I posted that, and when I'm tired I usually just write down whatever pops in to my head and leave it at that. Also, your theory was very plausible, and I was a bit peeved with the adults at that moment. :3 (reading too many newspaper articles is bad for you)

Well, going on another topic, on Monday I'll be starting a nineteen day Fasting. As I'm a Bah?'i, as soon as I am at the age of 15, I have to start things such as obligatory prayers and fasting and such. I'm actually looking forward to the experience. And it's not like I'll be starving myself for nineteen days; I can eat as long as the sun's not up. ^^
