So far I've seen the first nine episodes of Fushigi Yuugi. It starts out kind of corny I thought, with two friends Miaka and Yui going to the library to read books. They find an ancient Chinese book of sorcery (I think) that sends them back in time to ancient China. Not unlike Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu going to Cephiro. There's a lot of fun and sillyness at first, but also a few creeps and some fights. However later on they start to slowly develop some interesting ^_^;; romantic relationships between the characters, and the show starts to become much better I think. It's very hard to classify - there is magic/sorcery, action, comedy, and romance all mixed together. It reminds me of Tenchi Muyo in this regard.

ohhh, sounds like something I would probably enjoy! I saw a preview for it on my Cardcaptor Sakura VHS tape. I think it was for something called "Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play."

But anyway, it looked interesting, so I went to check it out in a store (before I had a DVD player) I found the entire series in a box set, for a cheap price too. I look on the back in the bottom corner and what do I see... "English Language" noooo! *sighs* So yeah.. I didn't buy it =P

Was it a VHS set? Most DVD's are dual language. But I too prefer subbed anime, and that's what I'm watching now. ^_^ So far I'm up to episode 15 and I've really enjoyed what I've seen. There's definitely a few scenes here and there that are not for kids. If you get a chance to see it you'll see why.

Yep.. it was on VHS, and since I didn't have a DVD player at the time, I was so dissapointed when it was in english. It was such a good price too! *cries* =P

I loved watching subbed or dubbed. I only watch dubbed to hear the voices they chose for the characters. Half the time, I can't stand the voices chosen. Chii is a perfect example. I loved her voice in Japanese.. but I couldn't stand the english voice. On the other hand, I loved Fuuma's english voice and well as his japanese voice ((Hideki from Chobits had Fuuma's english vocie too.. but I don't think the voice suited Hideki))

Even though most dubs aren't well done, I'll watch them anyways out of curiosity. One reason is the voices, like you say Yuzuki-chan, I like to hear what the different voice actors sound like too. The translation is another thing I'm always curious about, seeing how close they got it to the original. Other times I might be to too tired or just too lazy to read the subtitles, so I'll watch the english version .. and fall asleep maybe ... :P

Now I'm up to episode 21 of Fushigi Yuugi, after a few plot twists and turns, a showdown is set up for episode 22. But I won't say between which characters though. :P

*laughs* You could probably say which characters showdown! I have no clue who any of them are. I don't even know the mian characters name XD

Translation is another interesting thing. I watched one episode of Orphen in english to listen to the voices and hear the translation. I put the subtitles on while the english version was playing. They translated it really bad -_- They re-worded everything so weirdly and they took out Orphen saying his spells and replaced it with something lame |I

At least in X they made Subaru say that chant ^^;

Oh no no no, no spoilers! :P I wouldn't want to ruin anything for you in case you decide to watch Fushigi Yuugi someday. Since you're a real big fan of CLAMP, I know that you would love this show Yuzuki-chan. It's not made by CLAMP, but there are a lot of similarities to the shows that CLAMP has done. I'm up to episode 27 now and .. episode 27 is sooo ... saaadd!!! Waaaaaaaaahhhh!!! *cries*

Is episdoe 27 the last episode of the series? Usually an anime series average episodes are around 24-26. There are the few exceptions like Card Captor Sakura.

When I went shopping the other night, I couldn't find Fushigi Yuugi at all ;_; They had no DVD's of it >*thinks* I wonder if I will ever be able to find it?

Fushigi Yuugi had 2 seasons, so there are 52 episodes. ^_^ But you're right, most anime series only run for one season, so they only have 24 or 26 episodes or less. There are a lot of weird exceptions - MKR had 49, Utena had 39 (1? seasons?) Saint Tail had 43. Some series like Ranma?, Sailor Moon and DBZ, have just tons of episodes I don't really know how many ... @_@

Oh dear, that's awful that you even went to look for Fushigi Yuugi and couldn't find it at a local store. v.v If it's a good store they will probably special order it for you if you ask them. A favorite place online that I like to order anime from is The Anime Corner Store. It's all legitimate goods, no bootlegs, so you don't have to worry about getting ripped off. Their prices are pretty decent too. They have Fushigi Yuugi here: www.animecornerstore.com/fushigiyugi.html It's dual language too, so you don't have to worry about being stuck with an English version that's not so good. Actually I haven't seen the English dubs of Fushigi Yuugi yet, so they might be okay, I dunno yet. ^_^;;

The animes that have 100+ tend to bore me -_- They're all just filler episodes.. and they could finish the series within 20-35 episodes instead 100+ (InuYasha.. a perfect example)

I tend not to collect the longer anime.. but I will make an exception if it looks really promising (ie:CCS.. that and... it's a CLAMP production))

Does the anime corner store request that you pay in American dollars? That's something I have little of -_- I don't know any site to buy anime off of that sells it in Canadian :|

Yes, their prices are in USD. If you pay by credit card, the card company will convert it for you automatically. I'm not sure how they would do a check. Most businesses would not accept checks drawn on foreign banks, and I wouldn't send them cash. They don't take Paypal anymore either, so really a credit card is the only way to go.

Now I'm up to episode 36 of Fushigi Yuugi, and I'm really starting to hate Nakago! >.< He's been a good villian throughout much of the series, but in the last couple of episodes he's been revealed to be a real scumbag! Arrgh, what a creep, the worst kind of guy anyone would ever want to meet!! >.<

Makes me want to go buy a cel of him, just so I can cut it up like an old credit card ...

As far as villains go, he's still good, just that the *evilness* factor is really getting up there. O.O;; I'd like to say what he did, but that would really be a terrible spoiler, so I won't. Please don't get too mad at me ...

aww.. tis okay ^^; I won't get mad because you won't tell me XD hehe

As for evil characters.. I have really never seen one. *besides Fuuma in the X movie.. he was scarily evil) For example.. Zagato.. he is not evil, but still considered the villian in Magic Knight Rayearth due to the fact that he "kidnapped" Princess Emeraude.

actually... Dakki from Houshin Engi could be considered evil. She hardly got any screen time.. but when she did.. she was pretty nasty to some people.

Nakago isn't quite as evil as Fuuma in the X movie - that would be really hard to top, that's for sure. ^_^;;

I'm up to episode 45 now and the plot continues to take weird twists and turns, so I'm not quite sure how it's all going to fall in place. Nakago didn't really do that awful thing to Miaka (she found out the truth), but lying to her and saying he did is just as evil in my book. He's also told the same lie to Yui all through the series and poor Yui still hasn't figured it out yet. v.v Somehow she is going to be a real mess when this is all over.

Wow, I just finished watching Fushigi Yuugi, what an awesome show! ^_^ A show that started out a little corny like I said before, it just got better and better and better as it went along. The pieces of the story puzzle were handed to me one at a time, so at no point was I able to really guess the outcome until the very end. Many different plot twists kept me guessing too. I even found the show to be intelligent and endearing at times. One episode had me crying, while another made me mad as hell, but at the end I didn't hate any of the characters. Even Nakago I had a hard time still being mad at him at the end too. After seeing this show and Ayashi no Ceres, I find myself developing a healthy respect for Yuu Watase for her intelligent and emotionally provocative stories.

No matter what I do for entertainment, there is one thing that I always demand from it - that it makes me feel something. The emotion could be joy, happiness, anger, disgust or whatever, but if a show doesn't make me feel anything inside, then it wasn't entertainment at all, it was merely a waste of time. And indeed Fushigi Yuugi was not a waste of time, I enjoyed it very much. MKR will still remain my favorite anime of course, but I'd put Fushigi Yuugi up on the same shelf with it though. ^_^

You're finished already Hikaru-chan? fast fast fast! Of course, when you watch anime, you remind me of myself ^^; I'm always so egar to find out what happens in the next episode, and before I know it, I've finished the entire series!

I beleive it was one time my friend lent me the box set of CLAMP school, but he needed it back in 3 days. I started at 6am in the morning and didn't stop until it was finished. I didn't even sleep XD hehehe

I just wish I could see Fushigi Yuugi so we could have a nice conversation about it, eh?
