One of my old siggy's had a really funny scene where Presea finds the names of the Magic Knights to be a little weird.

My favorite part is the Clef flashback scenes in Rayearth II Book 2. I'm such a sap. ::dies:: And I'm obsessed with Clef. >.<

~~~~~~
I'll try to find a picture when I get back from vacation, the computer here is really slow.
Haven is an hyperactive fangirl (that needs more sleep and likes talking in third person...) that has an odd obsession with Clef's hands. Her favorite word is Erk. Erk!
They're called Rune gods (or "mashin" as said in the anime).
I'm not really sure where the term "Rune God" actually came from, I'd have to ask those that translated it to find out. Rayearth, Ceres, and Windom were originally called "Mashin" which literally translates to mean "devil". However, mashin is pronounced exactly like the English word "machine" so it could just indicate that they are mechas. But then again they are living creatures that possess consciousness, so they're not true mechas either. If you're confused, then you're just like me too .. @_@
Thank you Shiidou -San!
Actually they?re called "Mashin" in japan, with the Kanjis (symbols) of "Ma" (Wich comes from "Mahou" - "Magic") And "Shin" (Comes from "Kami" -Don?t ask what has to do Shin with Kami... is a long explanation) that it means "God" (More litteraly "Spirit", but for japan people the spirits were gods, calling "Kami-Sama" to GOD itself)
So it would be translated more like "Spirits of Magic" or "Magic Gods", you can use Runs instead of "Magic" and "ta daa" (you know what a Run is... right?
I think that would be possibly the reason... thank you both of you!
(BTW-I just realize that the kanji "Ka" or "Kami" or "shin" is also the one on my avatar... the first at the top in the right means "Shin" from "Shinkan" or "Ka" for "Kamui" in X)
I like anything that has to do with Ascot, really...so I can't tell a specific spot...
...and...let me explain Kami and Shin, if you will allow me...
Kami is the native Japanese reading of the top right Kanji in Zagato's avatar...while Shin is the Japanese derivative of the original Mandarin "Shen" (Pronounced like the English word "shun").
This is due to the fact that the Japanese script is based on the Chinese, as all documents were written in Chinese, while these documents were spoken in Japanese...
So if you want to use Kami, it's most likely going to be by itself, "Kami-sama", etc. Shin will be used with most combinations, like "Shinkan" in Zagato's avatar. And Kamui, which is actually "KA-MO-I" is strange...the symbol for "Kami" takes the pronunciation "Kamo" and the second symbol takes "I".
If "Kami" appears as the second character in a word, it will take the pronunciation "Shin" or "Gami" depending on the preceding Kanji. An example of the use of the original Chinese would be "Mashin" ("Moshen" in Mandarin), and an example of the Japanese would be "Megami", "Goddess", but notice that in Mandarin, this would be "Nuushen".
...if you REALLY want to find out more about this, learn what the On and Kun readings are on Kanji, and about how to use them.
