Right after their encounter with Clef in the first episode, Umi expresses her unwillingness to go along with any of the Magic Knight business. "Why should we trust that guy?" she asked regarding Clef. Unfortunately they really weren't given any choice, but if they had been, following Umi's read on the whole thing would have saved them all a lot of sorrow and heartache.

Quote:This I believe is absolutely correct. If Clef had told them the true nature of their mission up front, they might have chose to sacrifice themselves rather than kill another person. It all depends on the moral integrity of each of the three of them. Only one would have to back out to abort the mission, and they would've perished with everyone else in Cephiro. Eventually it was a choice that they had to make anyways when facing Emeraude in the final battle since she would've killed them if they hadn't destroyed her first. Certainly none of them has the heart of a killer, but it could be viewed as self defense. BTW, I'll put a spoiler tag on this. Edited by: Shiidou Hikaru at: 4/13/04 9:18 pm |
