<I try to be nice to everyone; even to my enemies. They're just people with both good and bad qualities. If someone gets on my bad side, I try really hard to forgive them. I can't say it's the easiest thing though; it's just something I try and hope to succeed in.

It's what Christ told us to do when he said "Love your Enemy" which is as much counterculture today as it was the day he uttered those words.

Personally, I feel people need to "step it up" a level in this society. We need much higher standards.

For instance, You could say you should tolerate different people. I think you should celebrate people's differences, tolerance is not enough.

Or, like how they say you should stick up for your rights. I think you should stick up for other people's rights. In fact, I want it to be so you won't have to stick up for anyone's rights, if everyone respected each other and their rights, there would be no need to stick up for them.

Another example is where they say, for instance, to control your envy and not let it control you. I say you should obliterate it completely from your mind, so that there is no jealousy to control in the first place.

Don't misunderstand me, this isn't very easy at all; I probably haven't gotten this far up. I think we should definitely try our hardest though.

Oh by no means is it easy Itena-san. Putting other people first, is very, very hard to do in a "me first" society such as ours. However some Russian scientist once said that the ability to sacrifice oneself for the benefit of another is the one and only thing that separates us from the animals.

When I said it was hard, I say it because we live in such a consumerist society. There are many things to influence you to be selfish. Everyone is influenced by everything in some way or manner; we just don't notice it most of the time.

But, I think there is a way to counter that influence. For me that is praying(to God if you believe in him) and meditation.

So what do you think about how society takes to talking about religion? These days, it almost seems taboo to talk about religion, God, and spirituality; since people get "offended". But the thing is, to be offended means you're not being receptive. You're not being open to other people's beliefs.

If a person can't voice his opinions and/or beliefs in the society he's living in, then frankly he's living in the wrong society. Sad to say, there are many of these "wrong societies," and even more sad to say, the United States is one of them, in ways that go even beyond religious discussion. (On another note - Political correctness is a ridiculous concept, a euphemism for "I don't want to offend you so I'm going to say this instead or completely neutralize it with another term.") One should be able to go out and in a discussion of beliefs, religious or otherwise, say straight up "I am Catholic and I'm proud of it" (by the way, I am Catholic) or "I am Muslim and proud of it."
