Meitantei Conan (Detective Conan) Options

Its probably noticable that I'm a huge Meitantei Conan Fan... So I thought i'd make a thread about it

Meitantei Conan, or Detective Conan (or "Case Closed" for America), is about a High School Detective named "Shinichi Kudo" (or "Jimmy Kudo" in America), who is one of Japan's most popular detectives.
When on a day-out to a amusement park with his childhood friend (and crush) "Ran Mori" (or "Rachel Moore" for America), Shinichi come only comes across a bloody murder, but also see two suspisious men in black. After easily solving the case, he tells Ran to go home and starts following the Men in black.
He tracks them to a hidden area and witnesses them making a illegal deal.
Unfortuantly, while his attension was on the dealers, One of the Men in black, known as "Gin", attacks Shinichi from behind, and instead of shooting him, they fed him a strange drug that is supposed to leave no trace of it in the body, later known as "APTX4869", which, even though it was supposed to kill him, turns him in to 6th Grader.
Now, Shinichi take the name of "Conan Edogawa" (taken from the names Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Rampo), and also has been left to live with Ran and her father "Kogoro Mori" (or "Richard Moore" in America), who is also a detective (but not a good one), due to the idea of "Dr. Hiroshi Agasa" (or "Dr. Herschel Agasa" in America).
But even as a Elementary Student, Conan continues to solve cases with the help of some invention from Dr Agasa, while also trying to find leads on the Men in Black that made him strink.

Anyway, I was wondering whether anyone else has ever watched/read it? If so, what is you opinion on it?
I've currently read up to volume 45 of Meitantei Conan, but only up to episode 4 of the anime. I've also watched "Meitantei Conan - Movie 1: The Time Bombed Sky Scraper"

Also, Meitantei Conan is a VERY long anime/manga series.
Consisting of 58 manga volumes, 486 episodes and 11 movies as of September 13 2007, as is STILL incompleted.

Tomoyo-chan does make a good point about the main character's name being derived from the author of the Sherlock Holmes novels rather than the Conan the Barbarian movies or associated materials. I doubt that it's possible to actually copyright a name and I seem to recall a similar case here in my local area. A bar/pub/tavern here got sued for using the name "Garfield's" by ... you guessed it ... the publishers of the Garfield comics. They lost of course, however the bar had to remove any images or references to Garfield the cat from the establishment. In the end the bar was allowed to retain the name "Garfield's".

From Tomoyo-chan's description I see Case Closed as more a case of domesticization where the names of many of the characters were changed to reflect a western culture instead of a Japanese one. Unfortunately I haven't read this series but the premise does sound interesting. I wouldn't mind becoming a sixth grader again while retaining my adult knowledge - school would be kinda fun without the drudgery of having to do all of that homework XD.
