I'm going to order MKR Season 2 for my birthday coming up, so I'll give my thoughts on the episodes after watching them like I did with the first season.

Episode 44: A Serious Match - Umi vs. Tarta and Tatra
The episode starts off at Castle Cephiro in the dead of night. It's basically the calm before the storm; everyone is filled with uncertainty as they wonder what will happen when the current peaceful state inevitably ceases to be. Makes for a nice setting. Clef's eyes looked very bright and childlike in this episode... he really did look something like a 10-year old. Meanwhile, Primera's flying around the castle, ranting about how Lantis is in love with Hikaru even though she (Primera) has bigger breasts. I guess she is pretty hot for a fairy. Mokona does... something, but as I'm not really sure what the hell he was trying to say, I'll move on. Umi, Fuu, Ferio, Lafarga, Caldina, Ascot, and Presea are all gathered around in the Cephiro throne room. What follows is what I'm assuming to be the Umi/Ascot scene (I'm making that sound much more positive than it really is). Ascot finally shows his eyes (he looks much better this way than he normally does) as he earnestly tells Umi he's going with her and even says "I love you". Umi's next words make him the happiest man in Cephiro, only to utterly crush him about two seconds later. Well, that happiness was short-lived. I can't believe Umi was this oblivious... those three words aren't something most people just throw around, especially not someone who's fairly withdrawn like Ascot. For shame, Umi. Anyway, then Umi flies off in order to fight the Chizetians. I found the scene where the two spirits flew out pretty funny... Umi suddenly acted very tired, like she just didn't have it in her to fight those two annoying bastards again. I felt the exact same way. Fortunately, Tarta and Tatra decide to issue a swordfighting challenge, woman-to-woman. This fight totally kicked ass. Swordfights are usually pretty cool, but this one was especially well-choreographed and had some great animation and artwork to boot. This is probably Umi's greatest achievement; in the first season the three Magic Knights had to work together to "save" Cephiro, but this time Umi saved it all by herself. I mean, I guess it isn't totally saved, but stopping one of the three countries by yourself is a huge achievement. Two aggressors down, one to go. Rating for Episode 44: Good Badass Scene of the Episode Award: The entire Tarta/Tatra duel. Best fight in the series. It's time for Disk 7: Live. I wonder what's going to happen in these last five episodes. |
