Episode reviews for the second season Options

I'm going to order MKR Season 2 for my birthday coming up, so I'll give my thoughts on the episodes after watching them like I did with the first season.

Episode 42: Giant Sang Yung Versus the NSX!

Very good episode we have here. Things start off with the three Magic Knights talking amongst themselves in their bedroom in the castle. Mokona sure does look comfortable being held by Hikaru. Fuu says that they should talk to each other about any problems they have and Umi gets pissed over the abuse submitted to Hikaru by both Nova and Debonair as well as the fact that she added to Hikaru's stress by entering a situation where she had to be rescued. I'm enjoying these friendship scenes more than I did in the first season. Maybe they meant less in the original because the three were able to stick together the whole time relatively unperturbed, but I've been finding all the scenes this time around to be rather nice.

Back to the Fahren Trio. I liked Aska's dejected "Thank you, Sang Yung"... nice delivery there. Their crystal ball lights up and shows that the NSX is attacking Cephiro Castle. Aska crawls across the table (which is cute as hell) in order to get a better look. Anyway, the next scene is great. I watched it once dubbed and again subbed. Aska's teary-eyed speech makes for a powerful scene and cements her place as one of the most well-developed characters in the series. She started off as a perfectly stereotypical character (a likeable stereotype, of course), but she's been surprising me in these recent episodes. Hikaru-san said that Aska was the first to defer over to Cephiro's defense, so I figured that would be happening sometime soon.

The fight between NSX and the giant Sang Yung was pretty cool. Definitely better than I was expecting. The fight was completely one-sided at first, but sadly the NSX started making a comeback; I was on Sang Yung's side. The Magic Knights saw his giant self go by... I'm not sure they've pieced things together yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing their reactions towards Lady Aska becoming an ally. Aska tells Sang Yung she put a lot of heart into making his giant self, and Sang has a pretty positive reaction. XD I hope there's at least a little bit more Aska/Sang Yung left... I like this coupling. The two enemies shoot lasers at each other (the animation where Sang Yung opens his mouth is pretty freaky) and Sang Yung is seemingly out of the picture.

Finally, there's a brief scene with Eagle. He seems rather pleased that Hikaru "loves him too", and says something about the Proof of the Pillar. What does this mean? Has the fight between Sang Yung and the NSX really finished? Will Primera ever do anything? The answers await in the next episode.

Badass Scene of the Episode Award: Nothing really stands out, but the initial parts of the fight where the NSX was just being beaten on was pretty cool.
