Episode reviews for the second season Options

I'm going to order MKR Season 2 for my birthday coming up, so I'll give my thoughts on the episodes after watching them like I did with the first season.

Episode 40: Magic Knights and the Calm After the Storm

The episode starts off with a dream Hikaru has, an extended version of the scene we saw a while ago where Zagato asked Lantis what he thought of the pillar system and Emeraude ran off in tears. Lantis proves himself to be a rather poetic guy by saying that in a truly good lands, flowers could grow without a Pillar. Going by the state Cephiro is in right now that statement seems like it might have been a tad bit idealistic, but anyway... I wonder what was going through Hikaru's head when she saw Emeraude. I'm sure she's wanted nothing more than to see her again alive and well since the end of the first adventure, and there she was. Yeah... it also makes me wonder about all the things that have happened in Cephiro's history, particularly the bright Golden Age the country had prior to the first season.

So anyway, Hikaru wakes up and finds Umi and Fuu beside her. Umi and Fuu crawl into bed with her and the three have hot lesbian sex. The scene then moves over to Eagle. It took me a second to recognize him. XD I like his look better now, though. He looks more guyish and just cooler all-around. During the scene between Lantis and Eagle when Eagle says that he'd forgotten the weapon was there, I wonder if that was true. Common sense tells me it isn't, but Eagle is a man of honor. I don't think he'd do anything too underhanded. More importantly, what does it mean to "acquire" the Pillar system? Learn the mechanics behind it and then have Autozam implement it? That's the only thing that would really make sense, but his word usage throughout the episode made it sound as though he was actually going to steal it somehow.

The three Magic Knights enter the residential area and are taken aback at how bright it is. This scene made nice usage of the first season's opening as BGM. Everything about the scene with Umi and the two pervert kids kicked ass. "So we can look when we're older?" Smooth. Umi's expression in reaction to that was great, too. She didn't want to admit the kids were clever. Afterwards, Mokona flips up Umi's skirt (wtf) and we're treated to another classic "Umi tries to kill Mokona" scene.

Nova was kind of annoying in her first scene, but eh, nothing too bad. Debonair's freaky expression actually scared me a little, and anime rarely does that. Towards the end of the episode Nova enters via a freaky black hole thing, effectively scarring the kids and for life, and begins battle with the three Magic Knights. Nova then says that she knows Lantis is Hikaru's weak spot and takes off.

Rating for Episode 40: Great

Badass Scene of the Episode Award: Lantis's speech to Eagle. Hell yeah, Lantis. Show some conviction.
