Okay, I've been wondering for a while; is there anyone out there that actually likes fuu's hair? I know the show was set in the '90s; but I can't help but shudder whenever I see her. It's a little bit better with the manga, but the anime just makes it absolutely horrid.

Also, Fuu is really weird in general. o_O;; She keeps referring to everyone with a "-san", even Umi and Hikaru. Even if it's meant to be polite; I think there is such a thing as going to far. Personally, if I had a close friend who kept giving a "-san" at the end of my name, I'd get pretty offended. (Though it's kind of funny when she says "monster-san")

So yeah, Fuu lovers; hurry up and defend her!

If you remember in the first episode of the anime, Hikaru's classmates have a little discussion about the different schools also there at the Tokyo Tower. With Fuu's school they make a reference to high ranking diplomats and politicians sending their children there, so it's pretty safe to assume that this is the sort of background that Fuu was brought up in. Her family is likely to be aristocratic and traditional and thus politeness would be very, very important to them and to Fuu. This is why she keeps up with the Hikaru-san, and Umi-san formality in their conversation.

Unlike in western culture, calling a person by their proper name without an honorific (-san, -chan, -sama, etc.) in Japan would be quite insulting if you were not given permission to do so. The yobisute is reserved only for very intimate husband-wife or family type relationships. However it is a bit drawn out for Fuu to keep using using the formal "-san" honorific after such a long time and after they had become such good friends and using "-chan" would be more appropriate in my opinion too. Maybe if Hikaru and Umi had told Fuu to use "Hikaru-chan" and "Umi-chan" Fuu would have done so.

Oh yes, Fuu's hairstyle is really outdated, I'd say 70's or even 60's but one thing that I've found out is that fashion trends in the Far East tend to lag behind the West by as much as 10 years or more. I can remember that legwarmers were still popular in Japan in the 90's when here in America they were popular when I was in high school around 1980. The internet and global markets have narrowed that lag a lot in recent years however.

Eh-heh ... I'm not really sure how to respond to that Batou-san. happy.gif;; What about love? To me that seems like the most important ingredient necessary to build a marriage relationship on. Otherwise you might as well be looking for a roommate or a business partner.

I'll be the first to admit that the world of haute couture fashion often strays off of the deep end, however without that tendency, nothing new would ever be introduced into mainstream fashion that everyday people like me would wear. I'm actually rather conservative with the way I dress, but I do get bored of wearing the same old things all the time, so I'm always on the lookout for something new that catches my eye. Our culture (or any other for that matter) seems to also work on that same principle which is why I think that fashion trends always seem to be in a state of evolutionary flux and never settling on a final result.
