...well, if I've ever seen an odd anime, Serial Experiments Lain has to be it...

...that or Le Portrait de Petit Cossette (which I've just deleted from my computer...I think I'll be more satisfied in its soundtrack than the episodes themselves...)...I probably won't do a good job summarizing it because of how I watched it in parts and it's so confusing...

Alright, this little anime of three episodes (OAV's a more accurate term...) is about a teenager, Eiri Kurahashi, who works in an antique shop. One day, he finds a glass that has a strange rainbow cloud in it as well as a portrait of a beautiful girl named Cossette D'Auvergne.

Cossette lived in France 250 years ago, whose beauty was captured in painting by her fiance, Marchello. Eventually, the D'Auvergne family was collectively murdered, and Cossette killed by Marchello, her love, himself.

Eiri, bearing the reincarnated soul of Marchello, is attracted to Cossette's beauty (represented through Marchello's rather harsh painting style) and he falls in love with her. His obsession with her leads him to paint her portrait, and strangely enough, in Marchello's own style, even "copying" his own signature, with the note to Cossette.

Cossette, who believes that Eiri's fate is the same as Marchello's fate as a sinner and murderer, seeks to cleanse Eiri of the "vessels" that want to destroy him...but she wants him also to atone for his sins. (which doesn't make any sense to me).

...and crazy stuff happens...

...if you're really curious, go ahead and check it out. The torrent should be about 961 MB, and should take two or three days to finish, if not faster. Just be warned...it's really...really strange...gothic, I could say...blah...

Il me semble qu'un si?cle et qu'un monde ont pass?;

Et que, s?par? d'eux par un ab?me immense,

Un nouvel homme en moi rena?t et recommence.

There's this friend I know from A-E that's the biggest Cossette nut ever ... there's no doubt. So I know a lot about the series but haven't watched it ... actually I'm afraid to. Not of the series itself, it sounds rather interesting, but if this fellow found out that I liked it too, I'd never hear the end of it. ^_^;; If you really like Cossette a lot, I can introduce you to him Shiro-san. XD

*To Batou's question* From what I can tell modern goth/gothic people are called so because the clothing styles they use tend to be simular to what people wore during the gothic period. Of course I don't know for certian.

Heres a link to some info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth
