Lunar

(actually if this were like real Shiritori, I'd try to match the ending syllabic sound "tal", as in "Talisman")

I suppose, but the second syllable of "lunar" is "nar" with a pronunciation close to "nər," so you'd need something like "nervous." In the end, however, whether we take the last letter or the last syllable depends on what you call the shiri, or butt, of the word. Because the syllable can't be broken up in Japanese, the butt is by necessity the last syllable, while in English, the last letter suffices.

So from Arlington/Religion, I'll say...

Narcissistic. (Syllable-wise, tunnel, or possibly game over from "religion.")

Though if we change this game to syllable matching, it may become much more interesting and thought exercising because of various spellings based on the positioning of syllables, as with lunar -> nervous.

Hehe, I think you have some good points about problems doing what I suggested in English, and I could add problems of dialectic pronunciation as well. So maybe we should stick to the original concept even though what I had in mind would be a bit more challenging I think.

Umm ...

I'm not really sure what would go next happy.gif;;

Kinda fun both ways. ^^ Although, since Shiritori is originally a Japanese game, it's a lot easier to play it with Japanese words--example:

Kobutan
Tanuki
Kitsune
Neko

Anyhoo, it's fun in English, too. biggrin.gif

If the word you give ends in an "n" you lose. This is because no word in Japanese begins with the single nasal consonant ん (n).

Well, yes. ^^ That is why it simply went to the syllable before the "n", and so came "tanuki" from "kobutan", you see? smile.gif

Tonami/Omi

If we say that Nagato is written 長門, 門波 (tonami - clashing waves) both satisfies the syllabic requirement, and a Kanji match.
